The Waterfalls Circuit by car

mm.jpeg

About an hour and a half from Cairns by car you will find the Atherton Tablelands, a large green plateau with many places to explore.
Most locals go there to relax and dine in style or to explore the great outdoors.
The area offers a wide variety of hiking trails, waterfalls, greenery and animals to discover, and you will also find delicious gourmet foods.

The circuit can be done in one day by stopping at different places.

  • Lake Eacham

This Transparent blue lake is a volcanic crater surrounded by cool tropical forest. You can cool off with a swim, watch birds, enjoy picnic areas and shaded hiking trails.

Legend has it that a crocodile is still found in this lake, but rest assured, there has never been an "accident" :-) It is a freshwater crocodile (harmless)

  • Curtain Fig Tree

The Curtain fig tree is one of the largest trees in the world.Tropic north of Queensland, It is one of the best-known curiosities on the Haut Atherton Plateau. This curtain of aerial roots measures 15 meters high! It deserves a stop :-)

  • Milla Milla Falls

My favorite !

Milla Milla is a spectacular 18.3 meter waterfall. An easily accessible trail takes you directly to the base of the falls.

  • Babinda Boulders

Babinda Boulders a swimming spot surrounded by lush rainforest. It is a sacred place for the Aboriginal people. Indeed, legend has it that a young Aboriginal woman threw herself into the then stagnant waters after being separated from her love. His anguish caused the stream to rise, becoming the tumultuous, swirling torrent it is today.

  • Behana Gorge

Behana Gorge is just a 30-minute drive south of Cairns. With its pristine pools, breathtaking views and stunning waterfalls cascading into a deep granite gorge, Behana is a year-round spectacle. It takes around 45 minutes' walk along a tarmac road parallel to the creek to reach your final destination, Clamshell Falls. Here you'll find a beautiful waterfall with a cool swimming hole at its base. There are no facilities, so bring water, snacks and sunscreen.
